Small Halls Artist in Residency Programme

Deadline: 11 May 2022

Description

The Small Halls Artist in Residency is a new programme which will see artists / creative practitioners working with and engaging rural communities as part of Combine to Create.

We are seeking to recruit up to 4 artists / creative practitioners who will be paired with, and work in collaboration, with 4 rural village halls, their committee members and communities in the Forres area.

The Artist in Residency will respond to, and create site-specific work, in response to the unique narrative of the hall and its community. This response may involve a participatory programme and be co-created with local people and / or creation of a new piece of work.

At the heart of this programme is conversation, artist-led conversation with residents living / working in the community. The artist should have an interest in exploring the ideas, issues, ecologies or stories that matter to the people living in the communities and the unique heritage and culture of the community in which you are working, and whose practice aligns with community engagement / socially engaged practice.

It is expected that the Artist in Residency will live and work locally and / or be able to regularly commute from home / studio within a reasonable time to the village hall / community that they are paired with in the Forres area (to be determined).

Each residency will conclude with a community sharing and celebration to showcase the creative response of the creative practitioners and community as part of the 4th Findhorn Bay Festival (Fri 23 Sept – 2 Oct 2022).
