Description

soundfestival returns to familiar and much-loved venues around Aberdeen with a jam-packed programme of new music events between 19-24 October.

The festival features over 30 premieres of new works from composers including Ailie Robertson, Luke Styles, Edwin Hillier, Oliver Searle, David Fennessy, Tansy Davies, Pascale Criton, Laura Bowler, Pete Stollery, Diana Burrell, Lewis Murphy, Claire McCue, Ben Lunn, Aileen Sweeney, and Georgina MacDonell Finlayson.

Acclaimed performer, Florentin Ginot, will join the festival as artist in residence, as the festival concludes a five-year focus on “endangered instruments” with the double bass. The festival also puts the climate emergency centre stage both through a commitment from performers not to use air travel to come to the festival and specially commissioned works including Laura Bowler's Distance for amplified soprano and livestreamed ensemble.

Other highlights include a series of spotlight concerts aimed at giving a platform to emerging and/or local composers and musicians; family-friendly performances; late night events; and a composers’ day.

Building on the success of last year's digital events, a number of festival performances will also be broadcast online.
