Repertoire The Darkest Shore, by Tom Harrold
Description
The musicians of McOpera return for another exciting side-by-side event performing alongside some of our most talented young Scottish musicians featuring new work by Scottish composer Tom Harrold. The programme includes the performance of Strauss' Serenade for Wind Instruments Op 7 and the premiere of a new companion piece, The Darkest Shore commissioned by Milngavie Music Club. In the first half of the programme, vocal animateur Anna Flannagan leads primary-school children and wind quintet in a semi-staged production of Paul Hindemith’s 1930 mini-opera Let’s Build a City (Wir bauern eine Stadt), musically exploring innovative ways of protecting the environment from increasing urbanisation.
