Cards from cold places (online composition workshop and launch of online installation)

Description

This December, CoMA Glasgow is offering the chance to explore some festive sights and sounds to create an installation through a series of music sessions which are open to all! These will take place online and so are available to everyone during the festive period, wherever you are and whatever you’re celebrating.

Through three workshops – and some exercises to keep your ears warmed up in between – we will be listening, playing, and reimagining sounds. You’ll have the chance to make recordings at home of your favourite festive sounds (all you need is your phone!), create musical responses to these recordings in sessions with other musicians, photograph and create musical responses to your favourite festive images.

We will curate the sounds, music and images we’ve created together to form an online music installation for everyone to enjoy. The completed online installation will launch at sunset on the winter solstice - Friday 22 December at 15:44GMT.

The three workshops will take place on:

  • Tues 5 Dec, 7-8.30pm GMT – Online via Zoom
  • Sat 9 Dec, 10-11.30am GMT – Online via Zoom, and
  • Tues 12 Dec, 7-8.30pm GMT – Online via Zoom

We encourage you to attend all three to make the most of this exciting project.

Join from wherever you are in the world - just remember that the times above are GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Costs:

  • For existing members of CoMA Glasgow's Open Score Club - the project is included in your subscription, but you are welcome to make a donation to support others to attend.
  • For non-members, you can Pay-What-You-Can-Afford, with a recommended minimum donation of £10 - please consider paying it forward, if you can, for someone who may not be able to afford this amount.
