Peer-to-peer support for Emerging New Music Journalists
Deadline: 6 Nov 2020
This online professional development opportunity for emerging new music journalists is open to Scottish based individuals who are at the early stage of their careers.
Working in music journalism can often be a solitary occupation, particularly during these uncertain times. Arts journalism has been under increasing pressure over the last few years, leading to fewer opportunities to develop a career in this field.
With sessions held over two consecutive weekends the aim of this course is to give you the opportunity to work together, share experiences and challenges faced, and benefit from each other’s strengths and support in a safe and friendly environment.
This online residency will include:
- Facilitated getting to know you
- Discussion of philosophies and ethics involved
- Question and answer sessions
- Discussion opportunities
NMS is aware that some participants may have genuine concerns about sharing their ideas with others, for fear of them being misappropriated. While all participants should know in advance that some degree of sharing is key to gaining as much as possible from the workshops, it is also understood that there is some need for privacy and you will not be asked to discuss anything that you would prefer to keep private.
These sessions will be facilitated by Karen Dufour and NMS board members Francis MacDonald with support from Keith Bruce. Biographies can be found at the end of the call out.
Eligibility
The course will be open to a maximum of 8 participants, who will be chosen by application. The course is open to all people, of any ages who who are at the early stage of their career in music journalism and have an interest and passion for new music. Participants will be selected based upon their shared needs and stage of career: it is hoped that participants will be at a similar level to maximise their opportunities for sharing experiences and learning. All applicants must be Scottish based.

The cost of this online Time Out is £20 for members/£40 for non-members.
