New Music Scotland – Digital Officer 
Fixed Term Contract – 13 months 
New Music Scotland is seeking to engage a freelance Digital officer to support the organisation to enable, support and connect Scotland’s new music sector.
The Digital Officer will be responsible for the organisation’s regular communications, including monthly email bulletin, social media, website updates and supporting NMS events (as capacity allows). The digital officer will report to the general manager.  
The successful candidate will have a knowledge of and connection to the new music sector. They will be responsible for maintaining and developing NMS’s digital presence, ensuring clear and consistent communication with members and the wider sector. The role will suit someone with a good understanding of Scotland’s new music scene, who is comfortable using digital tools to connect people and share opportunities. It would be well suited to a recent graduate or a practising musician, composer or creative working in the sector who is keen to use and further develop their skills in communications and digital engagement.

New Music Scotland was set up to help generate a vibrant and thriving new music sector in Scotland. NMS is a SCIO and exists to connect, enable and support makers of new music, musicians, sound artists, composers, promoters and producers in Scotland. NMS creates and maintains a supportive environment for innovation.
Details:
Timeframe: 13 months – fixed term. Starting date: Mid November 2025 – Mid December 2026.
There may be a possibility of extension/further opportunity, dependent on internal/external developments.
Fee: £3,024, based on £13.50 per hour, 4 hours per week for 56 weeks.  This role requires flexible working with some work concentrated during busier periods that may require more than 4 hours of work within a given week, subject to your availability. In these instances, time should be taken off in lieu in subsequent weeks so that an average of 4 hours per week is maintained.
The role
The Digital Officer role is a 13-month fixed term post. It is hoped that the role will be extended if sufficient funding is obtained.
The Digital Officer should be comfortable working remotely as part of a team, and will be required to work independently from home, in close liaison with the Board (voluntary) and the General Manager (also freelance part-time).
Scope of role
This is a time-limited, part-time freelance role. The workload will be planned carefully to remain manageable within the agreed hours. Different periods of the contract will bring different priorities, so the postholder will work with the General Manager to plan tasks in advance so that activity remains balanced and achievable throughout the contract.
Key Responsibilities
•    Manage NMS’s digital communications, including the monthly members bulletin, website updates, and regular posts across social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky.
•    Maintain and update the NMS website, ensuring information is accurate, well-presented and aligned with NMS’s strategy and visual identity.
•    Support the General Manager in planning and promoting online and in-person events, such as members’ meetings, workshops and the annual sector gathering.
•    Assist in producing digital assets and materials for campaigns, press and membership drives.
•    Monitor and report on digital engagement, suggesting improvements where possible.
•    Help coordinate NMS’s member communications and feedback mechanisms, such as online surveys and polls.
•    Support the organisation’s environmental and equality commitments through accessible, sustainable and inclusive digital practice.
•    Undertake other tasks as agreed with the General Manager that support NMS’s overall strategic aims.
Required Skills
•    Understanding of Scotland’s new music sector, and enthusiasm for supporting its growth and visibility.
•    Experience creating and managing digital content across platforms (social media, email newsletters, websites).
•    Ability to write clearly and confidently for different audiences.
•    Good organisational and time-management skills, with attention to detail.
•    Experience using website content management systems and social media scheduling tools.
•    Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage workload flexibly.
•    Collaborative approach, able to work closely with the General Manager, Board and membership.

•    Interest in developing skills and experience in digital communication within the arts
