Repertoire sky dance, by Ailie Robertson; Geese Flying Over My Head and Into the Distance, by Electra Perivolaris; Meditation on Da Day Dawn, by Katherine Wren; Carry His Relics, by Gemma McGregor; On the Trysted Shore, by Gemma McGregor; Lagarfljót, by Katherine Wren
Description
This concert features Katherine Wren on viola and Gemma McGregor on flute. It will take the listener on a journey around the North Atlantic, visiting the remarkable landscapes of the Faroes and Iceland in music by Katherine Wren and Faroese composer Kári Bæk and travelling on foot along Orkney's St. Magnus Way in Gemma McGregor's "Carry His Relics". We marvel at the elaborate courtship dance of the Hen Harrier as viewed in Scottish composer Ailie Robertson's "Skydance" and contemplate the migratory path of the geese in Ayrshire composer Electra Perivolaris' evocative "Geese Flying Over My Head and into the Distance", which features geese recorded at Caerlaverock in Dumfriesshire. The programme also includes a new commission by Orkney composer Gemma McGregor for flute and viola, entitled "On the Trysted shore" - from a poem by George Mackay Brown called "Songs for St Magnus Day".
